MacGregor has secured a contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard to supply a comprehensive package of roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) equipment for two new battery-hybrid LNG ferries being built for German ferry operator TT-Line.

The agreement, booked into MacGregor’s Q2 2026 orders received, covers several ro-ro equipment items per vessel for TT-Line’s Green Ship 2.0 programme — described by MacGregor as one of its most extensive ro-pax scopes to date.

The two vessels will each measure 240 metres in length and are designed to carry 5,400 lane metres of cargo, with accommodation for 1,000 people per ship. Once delivered, the ferries are intended to operate on Baltic Sea routes connecting Sweden, Germany, Poland and Lithuania.

Powered by LNG and equipped with battery-hybrid technology, the ships are part of TT-Line’s stated commitment to reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency across its fleet. The Green Ship 2.0 programme builds on experience gained from earlier TT-Line fleet projects, with MacGregor saying it has applied lessons learnt from those vessels to refine design, equipment reliability and execution processes. The project development phase is said to have begun in 2021.

Bernhard Termühlen, managing director of TT-Line, explained: "Our Green Ship 2.0 program is a cornerstone of TT-Line's commitment to sustainable, high-efficiency transport across the Baltic Sea. Equipping these vessels with high-performance, reliable cargo handling systems is essential for optimising our port turnarounds and delivering high service standards for our freight and passenger customers. We value MacGregor's technical expertise and shared dedication to continuous improvement as we work together to set new environmental standards in ferry transport."

Magnus Sjöberg, executive vice president of MacGregor’s Merchant Solutions Division, remarked: "We are proud to continue our partnership with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard and TT-Line on this ambitious Green Ship 2.0 program. By combining technical refinements with a passion for continuous improvement, our cross-border teams across Sweden, China, Poland, Germany and Croatia have delivered an integrated cargo handling solution. This agreement not only highlights our expertise in complex RoPax equipment, but also reinforces our dedication to customer success and sustainable shipping."
