Singapore and Brazil have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a green and digital shipping corridor (GDSC) between the two countries, with the agreement covering maritime decarbonisation, digitalisation and the development of alternative marine fuel supply chains.
The MoU was signed on 28 August by Singapore's Minister for Transport, Jeffrey Siow, and Brazil's Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca.
According to the announcement, Brazil's renewable energy resources and production capabilities could support the production of zero- and near-zero greenhouse gas emissions marine fuels, while Singapore — the world's largest bunkering port — offers a hub port infrastructure and innovation ecosystem that could complement Brazil's energy production potential. The GDSC is intended to bring together these respective strengths to advance alternative marine fuel supply chain development.
Under the terms of the MoU, the two countries will also explore digital information exchanges aimed at improving maritime and port operations. Singapore and Brazil say they will work with industry stakeholders to advance the research, development and adoption of emerging maritime technologies and solutions.
As previously reported, Singapore and India formalised their collaboration on establishing a green and digital shipping corridor in September 2025, whilst Singapore recently renewed its GDSC memorandum of understanding with the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach for another three years in April 2026.
