US fuel distributor Sunoco LP, through its wholly owned subsidiary Sunoco Marine Ltd, has entered into a commercial collaboration with Netherlands-based Verde Marine Energy B.V. (VME), with the agreement set to extend Sunoco's marine fuel offering into the Amsterdam–Rotterdam–Antwerp (ARA) region and UK bunker markets.

The collaboration is planned to go live on 1 October 2026, and is intended to combine Sunoco's commercial presence across North America and the Caribbean with VME's physical bunker supply capabilities and operational platform in Northern Europe.

Sunoco LP, which is publicly listed in the United States, describes itself as the largest independent fuel distributor in North America. The company currently operates as a physical supplier of marine fuels across a range of ports including Houston, Port Canaveral, Tampa, Port Everglades, Miami, Jamaica, St. Croix, Barbados, and Guyana, delivering via truck, barge, and pipeline depending on location.

Verde Marine Energy is backed by Dutch maritime service provider and shipping conglomerate Vertom BV, and the firm manages marine fuel procurement for the Vertom fleet.

The agreement is said to build on an existing collaboration in the United States with Eleven Energy, headed by Chris Todd. As previously reported, VME and Eleven Energy formalised a strategic collaboration back in July, combining VME's physical supply operations with Eleven Energy's international trading business and commercial network.

Under the terms of the arrangement, Sunoco gains access to an established operational platform in the ARA region and the UK, while VME is set to benefit from Sunoco's commercial reach and international customer network. The collaboration also intends to add barges, new products, and ports to its client offerings.

Joe Tierney, Head of Trading and Director at VME, said: "We are excited to build on the momentum and success VME has achieved over the past two years with the backing of Vertom. The progress we have made has led to this strategic collaboration with Sunoco, which will accelerate the expansion of our supply network while further strengthening our sustainability and digitalization capabilities. Chris Todd has been a key driver behind this agreement, and we look forward to working closely with Sunoco as we take the next step in Verde Marine Energy's growth. Our latest development in B100 supply has been positively received, and together with Sunoco we will enter new markets and offer new products."

Verde Marine Energy stressed that it will remain fully operational under its existing structure following the agreement, adding that the two companies plan to contact customers and vendors with additional information ahead of the planned go-live date on 1 October.
