Aderco launches 2055G+ programme linking fuel treatment to verified carbon credits

Aderco's new programme connects fuel additive technology with verified emissions data and Gold Standard carbon credits.

Fuel additive specialist Aderco has formally launched its 2055G+ programme, which the company says creates a bridge between fuel treatment technology, verified emissions reduction data and certified carbon credits for ship owners, managers and charterers operating on conventional marine fuels.

The programme, launched in 2026, is built around Aderco's 2055G fuel additive — described by the company as a 100% vegetal organic, ashless and metal-free fuel treatment — which Aderco says enhances combustion efficiency, disperses sludge, stabilises fuel, improves engine reliability and reduces emissions.

More than 100 ships have already been entered into the 2055G+ programme, according to Aderco, with fuel savings said to range between 2% and 5%. Two results have been verified by classification societies: ABS recorded a 4.84% fuel saving on a reefer vessel, while RINA verified a 3.25% saving on a Capesize bulk carrier.

The programme is designed to address regulatory pressures including the IMO's carbon intensity indicator (CII) framework and the EU emissions trading system (EU ETS), while providing operators with a streamlined methodology for reducing carbon emissions, documenting those reductions with verifiable data, and generating revenue through voluntary carbon credits issued under the Gold Standard certification scheme.

Under the programme's structure, a vessel typically undertakes a minimum six-month trial of the 2055G additive, with baseline fuel consumption and emissions performance established from historical noon reports extracted during a drydocking. Performance monitoring is then conducted in partnership with Adi Terra, a project developer specialising in carbon and biodiversity projects, which oversees monitoring, data integrity and verification under the Gold Standard Retrofit Measure Improving Efficiency Methodology. Each verified tonne of CO₂ avoided equates to one carbon credit, which operators can either resell or use to offset their own carbon footprint.

Aderco has entered into a strategic agreement with Adi Terra to formalise this arrangement.

Esteve Servajean, Head of Marine at Aderco, commented: "The seamless 2055G+ solution is integral to asset management in an era of unpredictable fuel quality and pressure to decarbonise. The tool creates a bridge between the 2055G technology, data and monetisation. This allows operators and charterers to go beyond mere pledges and show that they have taken the actions necessary to meet global sustainability standards."

Gérald Baiwir, Head of Environment at Aderco, added: "Aderco is removing the guesswork from green accreditation and providing shipping with a clear and low-risk pathway to emissions reduction."

Aderco, which claims to treat 40 billion litres of fuel annually, has been operating in the fuel additive sector for more than 45 years.
