Zhoushan has completed its first bonded marine fuel oil bunkering operation at the Majishan port area, according to Zhoushan Information Office, extending fuel supply services to all general cargo terminals within the city's port network.
The operation took place on 27 May at the No. 1 berth in the Majishan port area, where the fuel supply barge Dong Fang Zhao Yang 2 delivered 1,113 tonnes of marine fuel oil to the Hong Kong-registered bulk carrier Xin Li Hai, a vessel of 180,000 tonnes deadweight.
Majishan, situated in northern Zhoushan, is a bulk cargo hub that handled more than 57 million tonnes of cargo throughput and over 250 foreign vessel calls last year. Zhoushan Information Office noted that complex hydrological conditions and limited supply capacity had previously prevented regular bunkering services from being established at the port area.
The completion of the first bunkering operation fills a gap in fuel supply services at Majishan, with ships now able to complete both cargo unloading and refuelling in a single port call — reducing the need for vessels to divert to other ports for fuel.
Zhoushan authorities added that they aim to expand regular bunkering operations at Majishan as part of broader efforts to develop the city into a global bonded marine fuel supply hub.
