Zhoushan in Zhejiang province has continued expanding shore power infrastructure across its ports and terminals, according to a report by Zhoushan Information Office.
The Chinese port city’s Sanjiang Passenger Terminal connected Tong Da 2 to its shoreside electricity supply shortly after the vessel berthed on 9 May. The connection allowed onboard equipment, including lighting and fire alarm systems, to run without relying on the ship’s auxiliary generators.
By the end of 2025, all 67 nationally required specialised berths in Zhoushan had shore power coverage. The city’s 83 passenger transport berths had also been fitted with the facilities, while more than 900 units had been installed at ship repair and shipbuilding docks.
Zhoushan has also promoted onboard modifications to help ships connect to shore-side supply. By the end of 2025, 155 locally registered cargo vessels operating between sea and inland river routes had completed the relevant upgrades.
Passenger and cargo terminals in Zhoushan provided shore power services for 49,600 vessel calls in 2025, delivering electricity for 361,000 hours.
Total consumption reached 9.34 million kilowatt-hours, up by nearly 30% year on year.
