Vast has completed what it described as the first bunkering operation using Be8 BeVant biofuel on a tugboat at Brazil’s Port of Açu.

The operation was carried out in partnership with Wilson Sons and Ferroport, with the fuel developed by Be8.

Be8 BeVant is claimed to have the potential to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 99% compared with conventional marine diesel and to be usable without engine modifications.

Vast noted that the initiative is part of its strategy to promote lower-carbon fuels in the maritime sector and to support more efficient practices in line with energy transition goals.

The bunkering operation represents a concrete step in efforts to decarbonise port operations at the Brazilian facility.

Port of Açu, in the north of Rio de Janeiro state, is a major deep-water private industrial port complex in Latin America, with operations linked to oil and gas as well as newer energy developments.
