NYK Bulkship (Asia) Pte. Ltd., Golden Island Pte. Ltd. and Yara Clean Ammonia Norge AS have signed a non-binding term sheet to explore the marketing and supply of low-carbon ammonia as a marine fuel to maritime end-users in Singapore.
The three companies said discussions on the proposed business began in early 2024, with the aim of commencing operations within this decade.
Under the proposed partnership, NYK will contribute experience from LNG bunkering operations as well as operational and technical knowledge gained from ammonia carrier operations and ammonia-fuelled vessel projects.
Golden Island will bring its customer base and scheduling capabilities. Yara Clean Ammonia will contribute expertise in ammonia production and handling.
The agreement centres on Singapore, the world’s largest bunkering port, which in 2025 sold 56.77 million tonnes of marine fuel, according to data by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
Golden Island is a Singapore-based physical bunker supplier of conventional marine fuels, biofuel and methanol, and was one of three firms awarded a five-year methanol bunkering licence by the MPA.
Yara Clean Ammonia is headquartered in Oslo, while NYK Bulkship (Asia) is also based in Singapore.
