Ulstein Verft has completed sea trials for Genesis Sea, a commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) now moving into the final phase of construction ahead of delivery this spring.

The vessel, yard number 322, is based on the ULSTEIN SX222 design and incorporates the TWIN X-STERN configuration, which the yard says improves manoeuvrability, reduces vessel motions and enhances fuel efficiency for offshore operations.

Measuring 89.6 metres in length with a beam of 19.2 metres, Genesis Sea provides accommodation for 132 people. The CSOV is equipped with a motion-compensated walk-to-work gangway, a 3D-compensated crane, hybrid battery propulsion and preparations for green methanol operation.

During the sea trial programme, the vessel completed speed, turning and crash-stop tests, alongside dynamic positioning trials to confirm station-keeping performance. The final stage of testing will focus on FMEA/MTS verification.

Martinus Warholm, project manager at Ulstein Verft, commented: “We are very pleased with how the vessel performs. The results are satisfactory and confirm that the project is moving forward as expected.”

Ulstein Verft said the SX222 design is tailored for demanding offshore support roles, combining logistics capability, high positioning accuracy and crew comfort, while maintaining a low-emission profile.

The yard is now progressing towards the finalisation stage of the build programme ahead of Genesis Sea entering service later this spring.
