Marine fuel supplier Peninsula has announced the operation of Omega, an estuary barge on time charter with Victrol, to deliver bunkering services in the Belgian North Sea region.

According to Peninsula, Omega is the only estuary barge of its size serving Belgian North Sea ports, providing clients with the "unique advantage" of being able to providing fuel supply across deep-sea and inland waterways without compromising efficiency or safety.

Christened on September 5, 2025, the vessel measures 115 meters in length with a beam of 16.2 meters and has a capacity of 6,500 cbm. Its hull was built by Rensen-Driesen Shipbuilding at the Changqingsha Nantong shipyard, with design by Roald Verstraeten of V-Shipping.

Peninsula noted that the barge is equipped to transport and bunker methanol on ocean-going vessels, with the potential to operate on methanol itself in the future.

Founded in 1969, Victrol specializes in the design, construction, management and operation of barges and coastal vessels. The company has been involved in the construction of double-hull bunker vessels since the 1990s.

With a diversified fleet, Victrol's tankers are able to transport bitumen, chemicals, clean minerals, distillates, and heated fuel oil, while its pontoons are used for the transportation of RoRo, heavy lift materials and project cargoes.

In September, Victrol signed a memorandum of understanding with OCI Global to jointly develop a supply chain for clean ammonia bunkering in the Netherlands and Belgium. Under the collaboration, Victrol will design, build, and operate a liquid ammonia bunker barge that will load refrigerated ammonia at OCI's terminal and deliver it directly to ships in the ports.

Peninsula operates as both a physical distributor and reseller of marine fuel, with offices and operations in ports globally. The company provides a full range of marine services including dedicated barging facilities, ship agency, and a worldwide in-house ship repair and maintenance network.
