Ontario port to develop bunkering operations

City council to impose 12-month project completion deadline.

Canada's Port Colborne city council is planning to sell land to Nyon Marine Fuelling Corp. in order for the company to develop the area for the delivery of marine fuel, according to local media sources.

The city council is reportedly planning to sell less than half an acre of industrial-zoned land to Nyon in order for the firm to build a railway link across the area onto the existing King Street fuel dock, which Nyon currently owns.

The construction of the link would then enable Nyon to deliver marine fuel to the site by rail.

However, the proposed sale also comes with a condition that the land would revert back to city ownership if Nyon's planned fuelling operation was not developed within a 12 month period.

Speaking to councillors on Monday, Cecil Vincent, manager of special projects and strategic initiatives is reported to have said “It (the fuel dock) will be redeveloped in 12 months. If that does not happen, the land will revert back to the city.”

The 12-month countdown is scheduled to commence once the land sale is finalized, which is expected to be within the next sixty days.
