Bunker sales in Singapore fell from their highest level since May 2012 during the month of May 2014, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port decreased last month by 175,300 tonnes, or 4.6 percent, to 3,637,600 tonnes, down from 3,812,900 tonnes in April. It is the fourth monthly decrease in the last six months.

In comparison with the corresponding month last year, May volumes were up by 103,700 tonnes, or 2.9 percent. It is the third time in 2014 that year-on-year monthly volumes have risen.

Accumulated bunker sales for the year so far are 17,408,500 tonnes, which represents an increase of 62,100 tonnes compared to the first five months of 2013. The figure is however below the volumes sold during the corresponding period in 2012 (18,091,100 tonnes).

Sales of 380 centistoke (cSt) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - fell by 112,300 tonnes, or 4.0 percent, in May to 2,701,900 tonnes. In comparison with the corresponding month last year, 380 cSt sales were up by 68,700 tonnes, or 2.6 percent.

500 cSt volumes fell from last month's all-time record figure of 747,900 tonnes to 718,200 tonnes - the port's second highest ever number. The result is 73,900 tonnes, or 11.5 percent, higher than in May 2013.
