First delivery of Mobilgard 570 in Shanghai


ExxonMobil completes the first bulk delivery of Mobilgard 570 cylinder oil in Shanghai.



ExxonMobil Marine Lubricants recently completed the first bulk delivery of Mobilgard 570 cylinder oil in the port of Shanghai, China.

The delivery was carried out by the Hai Gong You 30 [pictured], said to be the first double-hulled marine lubricants delivery barge to operate in Shanghai.

Owned by China Marine Bunker PetroChina (Chimbusco), the IMO-compliant barge is 278 dwt and equipped with state-of-the-art flow meter technology and a 1.5 metric tonne crane to ensure accurate and efficient deliveries. The barge is on charter to ExxonMobil for two years.

"We constantly strive to offer our customers not only cutting-edge technology, but also a safe and efficient way of doing business,” said Iain White, field marketing manager, ExxonMobil Marine Lubricants.

“Offering bulk delivery of MobilGard cylinder oil in Shanghai by a double-hulled barge is one of the ways we can do this in a manner that is compatible with the environment and protects the safety and health of those involved," White added.

In a description of Mobilgard 570 on its website, Exxon Mobil says: "Mobilgard 570 by ExxonMobil is a superior quality, extra high performance, marine diesel engine cylinder oil. This bold new approach in cylinder lubricant technology provides maximum protection from adhesive and corrosive wear at the higher operating temperatures and pressures of today's modern crosshead engines. The outstanding performance of Mobilgard 570 has been demonstrated at the highest peak firing pressures and liner temperatures.

"Mobilgard 570 employs additives with substantially greater thermal stability and superior acid-corrosion protection. It has an optimum viscosity of over 20 cSt. at 100ºC and low volatility for best lubricant distribution and film retention. Through the use of unique formulation technology, the higher viscosity is attained with little or no use of thermally less stable, deposit-producing bright stock. Unique technology at the 70 TBN alkalinity level in Mobilgard 570 has demonstrated superior ring and liner protection and cleanliness under sustained operation with fuel sulphur levels down to 1.5%, but in some cases can be used in lower sulphur applications with the approval of the engine manufacturer."

Coming soon is ExxonMobil's new cylinder lubricant, Mobilgard 560 VS, which is said to provide outstanding performance at both low and high sulphur levels.

The product is a single-solution lubricant developed to help reduce wear, extend engine life and ensure optimal reliability in severe operating conditions, including slow steaming and low feed rates.

Mobilgard 560 VS is designed to provide protection at fuel sulphur levels as low as 0.5% and up to 4%, helping operators overcome the challenges of changing regulations and varying fuel sulphur levels, giving a single solution to fleets operating in and out of Emisson Control Areas (ECAs).
