Hong Kong has been placed under Storm Signal Number 3 by the Hong Kong Observatory - a department of the Hong Kong government - as a result of the threat of Tropical Storm Doksuri hitting the local area.

The tropical cyclone warning means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected.

At the port of Hong Kong, bunker deliveries have been halted following the weather warning.

In its latest shipping update issued at 18:30 hours local time, the Hong Kong Observatory said: "Tropical Storm Doksuri (1206) with central pressure 988 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of two one point three degrees north (21.3 N) one one five point five degrees east (115.5 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 14 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 45 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles over northeast quadrant, 120 nautical miles elsewhere.
