Posidonia: Fuel efficiency presentation announced

Fuel-saving measures to be addressed at international shipping exhibition.

Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has announced that it will be holding a press conference at the Posidonia International Shipping Exhibition in Athens next week, where topics such as ship efficiency, slow steaming and fuel-saving measures will be addressed.

During the press conference GL will look at the current challenges for ship owners and the types of ships that will meet the requirements of efficient operation. Low cost measures such as slow steaming and trim optimisation will also be discussed.

GL is also due to present a new Aframax oil tanker design as part of its presentation, pointing out that real savings will be achieved by new efficient designs.

The new tanker design offers optimized cargo capacity, minimum hull steel mass and lowest oil outflow probability in case of collision.

"Lower operational costs are the prime focus of GL's software family which is addressing relevant maintenance processes and operational efficiency," GL said in a statement.
