Thai fuel oil demand falls 25.6 percent


Government data shows a drop in demand for oil products in January 2009.



Thai demand for oil products, including fuel oil, fell in January 2009 from a year earlier, according to data released by the Energy Ministry.

Calculations based on government data show that total demand for oil products, excluding liquefied petroleum gas and bitumen, decreased to 2376.8 million litres in January 2009 from 2828.1 million litres during the same month the previous year, representing a drop of 16 percent.

Demand for fuel oil plummeted 25.6 percent in January 2009 to 226.4 million litres from 304.5 million litres a year earlier.

Jet fuel demand slid in January by 13.3 percent from 446.3 million litres last year to 386.8 million litres, whilst demand for diesel was down by 25.5 percent in January from a year ago to 1,098.4 million litres from 1,475 million litres.
