World Fuel Services appoints former IBM CIO Jeff Smith as COO


Appointment follows the recent addition of IT specialist Stephen Gold to the company's board of directors.



World Fuel Services Corporation (WFS) has announced the appointment of Jeff Smith as executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) of the company.

Smith has more than thirty years of corporate experience, and most recently served as chief information officer (CIO) of IBM between August 2014 and May 2017, where he was responsible for managing all front and back office systems and support for multiple domains including digital, supply chain, manufacturing, financial, and application services.

Smith has also led both information technology and corporate business strategy in his roles as CIO or chief executive officer (CEO) of organizations in telecommunications, technology and financial services, including Suncorp Business Services, Telstra Corporation and Honeywell.

"We are excited to have Jeff join us to accelerate our digital transformation," said Michael J. Kasbar, chairman and CEO. "His expertise in bringing agility to business teams will be instrumental in driving improved operational performance to provide an exceptional experience for our customers and suppliers."

The appointment of Smith follows the recent addition of Stephen J. Gold to the company's board of directors. Gold has more than 30 years of information systems management experience and currently serves as CIO at CVS Health Corporation.
