Maersk to cut bunker surcharges


Ocean carrier to reduce fees in Oceania and Southeast Asia.

Leading ocean carrier Maersk Line has announced that it intends to reduce bunker surcharges on cargo being shipped to and from Australia, Taiwan and the Pacific Ocean Islands.

In a company statement, Maersk said its surcharges will be lowered from $500 to $475 per TEU and from $1,100 to $950 per FEU.

The revised rates are due to come into effect on Saturday 29th November.

The Danish firm also revealed that it plans to implement a similar rate reduction for cargoes moving from Southeast Asian countries (ie. Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Myanmar and Cambodia) to Australia and the Pacific Ocean Islands.

Maersk said its bunker surcharges will be cut from $800 to $565 per TEU and from $1600 to $1130 per FEU.

The new rates will be effective from Monday 1st December.
