Ferry line eliminates fuel surcharge


Bunker surcharge removed for West Coast ferry travellers.

Black Ball Ferry Line, has announced that it is eliminating its fuel surcharge for travellers on the MV Coho ferry between Port Angeles and Victoria.

In June, the Victoria-based firm began implementing a fuel surcharge of $1 per person and $2 per vehicle in order to help offset the increase in bunker prices. It was the first time the company had ever implemented a variable fuel surcharge to cover its fuel costs.

"We said in the beginning that if fuel were to drop we'd take that surcharge off," said Black Ball Ferry Line CEO Ryan Burles. "Our intention has always been to remove the fuel surcharge for ourcustomers as soon as we were able.

"Our fuel costs have come down, and we are passing this on to our customers," added Burles.

Since the start of June, the price of crude oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) has decreased from $127.76 per barrel on June 2nd to yesterday's settlement price of $69.85 per barrel, a total decrease of $57.91.
