Horizon lowers fuel surcharge


Bunker fee to be lowered on shipments to Hawaii and Guam.

Horizon Lines has announced that it has reduced its bunker fuel surcharge for shipments between the US mainland and Hawaii.

Horizon, Hawaii's second-largest ocean shipper, said that it had lowered its Fuel Adjustment Factor for cargoes between the U.S. mainland and Hawaii by 4.5 percentage points from 37.5 percent to 33 percent.

The changes are due to come into effect on October 12th, 2008, the same day main rival Matson Navigation Co is set to reduce its fee by the same margin, from 37.5 percent to 33 percent.

Horizon said its fee for shipments to Guam will also be lowered by 4.5 percentage points from 39 to 34.5 percent, effective October 12th. The surcharge decrease is also in line with changes announced by Matson.

In a statement, the company said "Horizon Lines will continue to closely monitor fuel costs and will adjust the Fuel Surcharge as trends warrant."
